How do glasses change the way we see and are seen? Usually, we put them on to clear up our vision and let the world in. But Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster flip that logic entirely for their fourth collaboration, launching on October 29.
Across 68 frames, the collection trades traditional clarity for raw distortion. It delivers massive shields that “conceal the face from others” while expanding the wearer’s field of vision, alongside tight leather wraps that sit like a second skin.
Instead of relying on loud logos, the design speaks through structure. Familiar shapes get twisted, held together by the signature four white stitches at the temples or a new floating stitch technique on slimmer silhouettes.
That same unfinished logic extends directly into physical spaces, with pop-ups opening in eight cities featuring unstable, irregular forms. In Seoul, a live performance by choreographer Damien Jalet and artist Ian McMahon pushes the idea further, translating deconstruction into movement where body and light collide.
