Fashion as an escape? Not for Giacomo Goattin. For the Italian-American design talent, garment construction serves as a site of radical honesty rather than escapist fantasy. Drawing on their lived experience as a trans person growing up in rural Italy, Goattin translates the weight of social pressure into a collection defined by hard, controlled physicality.
Rigid bodices, pristine surfaces, and moulded forms become striking metaphors for the violence of being pushed towards normative, cisgendered shapes. Through structures that alter, contain, and discipline the body using chest felt, foam carving, wet moulding, and rigid latex panelling, Goattin examines the friction between identity and expectation. Infused with references to Italian modernist furniture, Giorgio de Chirico, cowboy garments, and American Art Deco, the collection stands as a powerful, uncompromising statement in contemporary fashion.
